The Fly

Headed into ‘downtown’ Stanley, ID 9 miles north of campground. On the way we made rafting reservations for the following day. We decided to do individual white water kayaks. When we asked if anyone gets tossed, the gentleman behind the counter stood back with a faint smile and a ‘moo ha ha ha’.

Town of Stanley, population 100, had a Wild West feel. Stopped by McCoy’s Tackle and Gift Shop for fly rod rental, fishing licenses, and some advice on fishing spots. Headed up the road to the local gift shops in search of the perfect T. None doing but did run into the wife of the man who, apparently, designed the Minuteman Rocket for NASA. We smiled, but were suspicious.

Headed to Red Fish Lodge, a resort in the middle of nowhere on the edges of Redfish lake for lunch. We arrived at 3:00pm…they stopped serving at 2:30pm…sniffles. Back to Stanley for hot pastrami and roast beef at a local joint…they are ALL local joints.

Headed down to the Salmon River to round up as much fish as possible…maybe even grab some trout for dinner. Very excited. Chad suggested waiting till the end of the day, after many catches, to get the ones for dinner so they don’t go bad. Good idea!

4 hours: 1 nibble, 0 catches, 45 mosquito bites.

Back to the campground…for chicken skewers.
